This is Jamie Babbit, she’s an American filmmaker. Her most famous film might be But I’m a Cheerleader, and she’s also directed episodes of known tv shows such as Gilmore Girls, United States of Tara, Malcolm in the Middle, The L Word, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars among others.
When she submitted But I’m a Cheerleader to the MPAA, it received an NC-17 rating for “explicit content”. The film featured originally Nataha Lyonne’s character (Megan) touching herself over her underwear and Clea Duvall’s Graham sweeping her hand over Megan’s clothed body, the first one got cut out and the second was shortened. She also had to edit a comment about about Graham eating out Megan. That’s how the movie got rated R. A fucking R, and you don’t see any naked bodies, explicit physical violence and it has (IMO) mild language.
But I’m a Cheerleader might not be one of the best LGBTQ films ever made, but it does point an important issue, about camps that “turn” straight those who are gay, bi, trans*, or any other sexual/gender identified people who don’t fit gender binary. It’s an intelligent comedy. I just didn’t like the ending that much, but at the same time, I have no clue how I would have finished the film.
Anyways, Jamie Babbit currently lives in Los Angeles and has two babies with her partner Andrea Sperling, who’s produced two of Jamie’s films.
